iPhone 16 Plus Resale Value in Dubai: Big Screen, What Price?

A 128GB iPhone 16 Plus in Excellent condition keeps roughly a third of its AED 3,799 launch price after 26 months. The 256GB keeps about the same share. At launch, UAE retailers were advertising assured buyback at up to 70 per cent. That gap is the most useful thing to understand about this phone.

On 9 September 2026 Apple took the iPhone 16 Plus off sale without saying anything about it. No farewell, no final-edition colour. It was simply gone from the store the morning the iPhone 18 Pro went up.

That makes the phone in your hand the last Plus iPhone Apple ever made. Which is a nice thing to say at a dinner table and does almost nothing for the price.

Key Takeaways

  • Apple discontinued it on 9 September 2026. The last Plus iPhone, and the end of the name.
  • A 128GB keeps about a third of what it cost. Roughly AED 96 a month of value, averaged across 26 months.
  • The big-screen premium halves. AED 400 more than an iPhone 16 at launch, AED 200 more back today.
  • The 256GB upgrade returns a quarter. AED 400 then, AED 100 now. The weakest money you spent on the phone.
  • "Up to 70 per cent" was the launch-day buyback pitch. The real figure two years on is less than half of it.
  • There is no deadline on this one. No software cliff, no dated event. The only question is whether you still use it.
  • All offers are in one table below. The live figure for your phone is always on thecalculator.

What Is an iPhone 16 Plus Worth in Dubai Right Now?

One table. It carries every price on this page, and it includes the two phones the 16 Plus is worth comparing against: the standard iPhone 16 it sat next to on the shelf, and the iPhone Air that replaced it in the lineup.

Whatever Happened to the 70 Per Cent Buyback Promise?

This is the part nobody writes about, and it is the only part with a date on both ends.

On 20 September 2024, the morning the iPhone 16 went on sale in the UAE, Gulf News ran a piece on how hard local retailers were pushing assured buyback. Jumbo Electronics described a programme letting customers trade in after two or three years at up to 70 per cent of value. Eros Group talked about an assurance of 70 to 75 per cent.

Two years and two months later, a 128GB iPhone 16 Plus is worth 34 per cent of what it cost. Seventy per cent of AED 3,799 would be AED 2,659. The real number is AED 1,300.

Before anyone gets angry at Jumbo or Eros, there are three honest caveats and they matter.

  • "Up to" is a ceiling, not a price. It is the best case on the best model in the best condition, and nobody quoted a figure for a specific handset.
  • A buyback is credit, not cash. The value comes off a new phone bought from the same retailer, at that retailer's price. It is not money in your account.
  • Gulf News said buyback values decrease over time, which was in the article at the time and is exactly what happened.

So the comparison is not retailer-versus-retailer, and we are not claiming to know what Jumbo would offer you today. What the two numbers show is something simpler and more useful: a figure quoted in a launch-week news story is not a forecast you can plan around. If you bought a 16 Plus in 2024 expecting to get most of your money back in 2026, the phone was never going to do that, and neither was any other iPhone.

The only number worth acting on is a current one.See what your iPhone 16 Plus is worth today rather than working from what a scheme promised two years ago.

Why the Plus Is Worth More Than the Standard iPhone 16

AED 200 more, on the same storage and the same condition. That is the answer, and the useful version needs the launch prices sitting next to it.

In September 2024 the 128GB iPhone 16 Plus cost AED 3,799 and the 128GB iPhone 16 cost AED 3,399. You paid AED 400 for the bigger screen and the bigger battery. Today the gap between the two phones is AED 200.

Half the premium survived. That is a better return than most of the things people pay extra for on an iPhone, and it points at something worth knowing for the next purchase: on the second-hand market, screen size holds its value better than almost any other upgrade.

There is a smaller result in the table that surprised us. The Plus keeps 34 per cent of its launch price and the standard iPhone 16 keeps 32 per cent. The bigger phone held on slightly better in percentage terms, not just in dirhams. The reason is who buys a two-year-old iPhone in Dubai. They are usually buying a lot of phone for a modest amount of money, and a 6.7-inch screen is the most visible thing you can get for that budget. The small phone in any range always has the thinnest resale market, and that has been true across every generation on our calculator.

If resale matters to you when you choose your next iPhone, that is the argument for the larger size, and it is a stronger one than the argument for more storage.

Was the 256GB Upgrade Worth Paying For?

Not if you bought it for the resale value. The arithmetic here is harsher than the screen.

The 256GB iPhone 16 Plus cost AED 4,199 against AED 3,799 for the 128GB. That is the same AED 400 you paid for the bigger screen. Today the gap between the two storage sizes is AED 100.

Two upgrades, the same price, and one came back at twice the rate of the other. Storage is the weakest money you can spend on an iPhone if you are thinking about what you will get back, and it has been consistent across generations. OuriPhone 15 resale guide shows the same pattern a year earlier.

None of which means the upgrade was a mistake. If you filled 256GB with photos and offline music and never thought about free space for two years, you got exactly what you paid for. It just was not an investment, and it was never sold to you as one.

Not sure which storage you have? Settings, then General, then About shows the capacity. Thencheck both if you want to see the difference for yourself.

What Did Discontinuing the Plus Do to Its Value?

Less than people expect, and the honest answer is that it has not shown up in the price yet.

When Apple stops making a model there are two forces pulling in opposite directions. No new units enter the market, which supports the price of the ones already here. At the same time the model drops out of every comparison, every shop display and every recommendation, and buyers drift toward whatever is current. On the iPhone 16 Plus those two have more or less cancelled out so far.

What did change is the shape of the lineup. Apple did not replace the Plus with another Plus. It replaced the slot with the iPhone Air, a thinner phone at a higher price, and the iPhone 17 now comes in one screen size. If you want a big non-Pro iPhone new today, there isn't one.

That is the part that could matter later. A 6.7-inch iPhone at a used-phone price has no new equivalent, and the people who want that are the people who buy a 16 Plus second-hand. It is a reason to think the phone holds a floor rather than falling through it. We would not sell you a decision on the basis of it, and we are not going to pretend we can forecast it.

Should You Sell Now or Wait?

Most articles answer this with urgency because urgency is useful to whoever wrote them. There is no urgency on this phone and it would be dishonest to invent some.

The iPhone 16 Plus has no software deadline. Apple supports iPhones for years beyond this, so unlike a Galaxy approaching the end of its security patches, nothing is about to expire and no date is going to move the price in a step. Compare it with ourGalaxy S22 guide, where the whole argument for selling is a dated event in 2027. There is no equivalent here.

The steep part of the depreciation is also behind you. Across 26 months the phone lost an average of about AED 96 a month, and most of that happened in the first year. The figure for the coming year will be smaller.

Which means the decision is not about the market. It is about the phone.

  • If it is your daily phone and you like it, keep it. There is no cliff and the monthly cost of holding is now modest.
  • If it is in a drawer, sell it. An idle 6.7-inch iPhone is the most expensive kind of spare phone to own, and it is still worth enough to be worth the twenty minutes.
  • If someone in the family needs a phone, that is worth more than our offer. We will say so rather than pretend otherwise.

The one timing comparison worth making is with the phone that replaced it. The iPhone Air launched at AED 4,299 in September 2025, almost exactly what a 256GB 16 Plus had cost a year earlier, and the table above shows where each of them has landed. The number that matters is not the gap but the rate: per month, the Air has lost value about one and a half times faster than the 16 Plus. The Air owner is still in the steep part of the curve. The 16 Plus owner is through it.

Checking costs nothing and settles the question.Run your iPhone 16 Plus through the calculator and you will know whether it is worth the twenty minutes or worth keeping.

Why Are Dubizzle Prices Almost Double?

It is the first thing people say, so here is the arithmetic instead of a slogan.

A used iPhone 16 Plus was listed in the UAE at AED 3,150 in May 2026. A 256GB went up at AED 2,705 in January 2026. Set against the offers in the table above, those look like numbers from a different market.

They are asking prices. A listing can sit at any number indefinitely, because nothing has to happen for it to stay there. The January listing is the more telling of the two: a price set in January and still being quoted later in the year is not a market rate, it is a record of a number nobody paid.

The gap between an ask and a cash offer is the work, and it is the same on every phone we buy. A private sale means photographing the phone, answering messages, meeting strangers in a mall, being stood up, and handling it yourself if the buyer comes back with a complaint. We test the handset, clear the accounts, guarantee it to the next owner and absorb the loss if it does not sell. You get less, and you get it today, with the money in hand before we leave.

Both routes are legitimate. If you have six weeks and the patience, a private sale will beat our number. If you want it done this afternoon, that is what the lower figure buys.

Worth knowing before you compare: the price on thecalculator is what we pay, not a starting point for a negotiation at your door.

How to Sell an iPhone 16 Plus in Dubai

  1. Confirm it is the Plus and not the standard iPhone 16. They are easy to confuse in a case, and they are priced differently. Settings, then General, then About gives you the model name and the storage.
  2. Get today's price. Use thecalculator or send the model and condition onWhatsApp.
  3. Check the battery health in Settings, then Battery. On a 2024 phone this moves you between grades more often than scratches do.
  4. Say what has been replaced. A screen or battery changed outside Apple affects the grade, and our guide to checking parts and service history shows where the phone tells you.
  5. Sign out of iCloud and turn off Find My before handover, or the phone is locked for the next owner and we cannot complete.
  6. Book a free pickup anywhere in Dubai. We check the phone in front of you and pay on the spot, cash or bank transfer.

Same condition, same price. If the phone matches what you described, the quote does not change when we arrive.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is an iPhone 16 Plus worth in Dubai?

Our offers for both storage sizes sit in the single table on this page, and the live figure for your exact phone and condition is always on thecalculator. The short version is that a 128GB iPhone 16 Plus in Excellent condition keeps roughly a third of what it cost in 2024. That is a normal result for a two-year-old iPhone, and it is a long way from what the buyback schemes advertised at launch.

When did Apple discontinue the iPhone 16 Plus?

On 9 September 2026, the day Apple introduced the iPhone 18 Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro Max and the iPhone Duo. It went quietly, with no announcement. That made it the last Plus iPhone: the name first appeared in 2014, disappeared after the iPhone 8 generation, came back with the iPhone 14 in 2022, and ended here. The iPhone 17 ships in one screen size only.

Is the iPhone 16 Plus worth more than the standard iPhone 16?

Yes, by AED 200 on the same storage and the same condition grade. That is worth putting next to what the bigger screen cost you in the first place, which was AED 400. Half the premium came back. If you are deciding between a standard and a Plus or Max on your next iPhone and resale matters, half is a better return than the storage upgrade gives you.

Was the 256GB iPhone 16 Plus worth the extra money?

For resale, not really. The 256GB model cost AED 400 more than the 128GB in September 2024 and it is worth AED 100 more today. A quarter of what you paid for it came back, which makes it the weakest upgrade on the phone. If you filled the storage and used it, you got your money's worth in a way that has nothing to do with resale. If you bought it to protect the resale value, it did not work.

Why is the iPhone Air worth more than the iPhone 16 Plus?

Mostly because it is a year younger. The Air went on sale in September 2025 at AED 4,299, which is almost exactly what a 256GB iPhone 16 Plus cost a year earlier, and it is worth AED 400 more today. The more interesting number is the rate: the Air has lost value about one and a half times faster per month than the 16 Plus has. OuriPhone Air resale guide goes through why.

Why are Dubizzle prices almost double your offer?

Because those are asking prices, not sales. A used iPhone 16 Plus was listed in the UAE at AED 3,150 in May 2026 and a 256GB at AED 2,705 in January 2026. Nobody has to pay an asking price for it to stay on the site. A cash buyer pays less because we test the phone, clear the accounts, guarantee it to the next owner and carry the risk that it does not sell. You get a lower number and you get it the same day.

Will the iPhone 16 Plus keep losing value now that it is discontinued?

It will keep drifting down, but the steep part is behind it. Over its first 26 months the phone lost an average of about AED 96 a month. That rate slows as a phone ages, which is why the decision here is not really about timing. There is no dated cliff coming, unlike a phone whose software support is about to end.

Does AppleCare+ change what I get for an iPhone 16 Plus?

It does not raise our offer, but it is worth checking before you sell rather than after. A 2024 iPhone may still be inside an AppleCare+ term, and whether that transfers or gets refunded is a separate question from the price. Our guide onwhether AppleCare+ transfers covers what happens in the UAE.

Should I sell my iPhone 16 Plus or keep it as a spare?

Ask whether it is actually getting used. A 6.7-inch iPhone makes a poor drawer phone: it is too big to be a casual second device and it is worth enough that leaving it idle has a real cost. If somebody in the family will use it as their daily phone, keeping it beats selling it. If it is going to sit in a drawer for a year, it will be worth noticeably less when you get round to it.
